Carrie

16-year-old Carrie arrived at Project Harmony’s Triage Center threatening to run. The staff slowly coaxed her into having a bite to eat – buying more time and building trust.

After taking a shower and receiving clean clothes, Carrie returned as a different person. She was calm and more engaged. She felt safe.

The staff members communicated what they knew about Carrie to law enforcement, who wanted to help Carrie find a more permanent safe place to stay. Together, the professionals were able to continue to build trust with Carrie by being sensitive to her situation, by asking what happened to her (not what was wrong with her), and by offering their support to help her build resilience and find safety.
